Utrecht-based ConcertLab, an acoustic filming studio, on Monday, announced the successful completion of a €1.1M investment from a group of business angels.
This group consists of both financial and entertainment experts, including the team behind Mayht speaker technology (which was sold to Sonos in 2023), STMPD studios, as well as the globally renowned music producer and DJ Martin Garrix, and Sander Reneman, partner at TwofiftyK.
The Dutch startup will use the funds to produce over 1,000 video clips of acoustically performed music and distribute the film catalog online, mainly on online platforms.
Gavriel Lipkind, founder of ConcertLab, “ConcertLab creates immersive music video content that brings the world closer to the greatest musicians of our time. The music industry is shifting rapidly from audio-only to video — a global trend. There is an enormous demand for high-quality performance music videos. However, proper acoustic music films are way too expensive to produce and look outdated.”
ConcertLab: Acoustic Filming studio
Founded by Gavriel Lipkind, ConcertLab is a studio designed specifically for recording a wide range of fine arts music, including classical music, jazz, art songs, folk music, and experimental electro-acoustic music.
“After years of R&D, we ended up transforming a state-monumental in Utrecht into a high-tech film studio. We developed the unique silent indoor drone camera in-house and used it to produce a wide range of repertoire for 3rd parties,” continues Lipkind.
With these capabilities, ConcertLab claims that it can produce exceptionally high-quality audiovisual content that truly complements the music-making process.
The company can capture footage in up to 8K resolution, graded in true HDR, and with DSD surround sound, all professionally mastered in-house. Their infrastructure also supports 3D filming, VR, and animation content, as well as experimental surround sound environments.
“We are finally ready to launch our filming – series with renowned exceptional musicians from around the world. Classical, jazz, pop: we welcome all genres. Our goal is to produce acoustically performed music films they are deeply proud of and want to share with their fans, promoters, and colleagues, concludes Lipkind.
After a day of filming, the company plans to welcome the audience to its studio in Utrecht.
Martijn Meeske, partner/ business development, explains, “All partners in ConcertLab share a big love for music. We know there is an untapped potential for high-quality film recordings of fine arts music which is currently not serviced due to technical and financial obstacles. Filming acoustic music in a modern and high-quality way requires special technology, a building with beautiful acoustics, access to international musicians, and a great online distribution deal. We have all of that.”
