Editor’s Note: This story originally appeared on The Penny Hoarder.

Earning a college degree takes two things that many of us don’t have a ton of: time and money. Whether you’re just starting out in the workforce or you’re looking to change course in your current career, you may be looking for a high-paying gig that doesn’t require time in a classroom first. These jobs do exist.

In fact, many high-demand jobs and entrepreneurial paths reward skill, experience and hustle more than formal education. In this guide, we’ll talk about 10 jobs paying $100 an hour without a degree.

Can You Really Earn $100 an Hour Without a Degree?

Yes, but the whole no degree required thing doesn’t mean it’s easy. Depending on the job, you’ll still need to hustle and hone certain skills. That’s because many $100/hour careers rely on:

Years of experience or demonstrated expertise
Freelancing, consulting or self-employment
Specialized skills or certifications
Creative or strategic entrepreneurship

A college degree isn’t the only path to serious income. However, you might need to complete a certification or spend time learning through online platforms. Here are some jobs paying $100 an hour without a degree that could help you up your earning potential.

Tip: As you work toward your new high-paying career, make some extra cash with a high-paying side gig.

Here are 10 real jobs that pay $100 an hour without college.

1. Freelance Copywriter

These professionals craft persuasive sales pages, email campaigns and landing pages. Companies are frequently turning to freelancers to source their content.

Being a freelancer means you can set your own rate and schedule as well. Take on as many or as few projects at a time as you want. It is especially helpful to find a niche and build a portfolio around it. Think health, fashion or lifestyle, finance, etc.

Earning potential: $100–$200/hour (or project-based)

2. Business Consultant

A business consultant advises companies on marketing, operations or productivity. While many business consultants do have a degree, it’s not a requirement. In fact, many companies are mostly looking at real-world experience.

There are also several certifications you can get in this area. Earn one or two, figure out how to market yourself and launch your new career.

Earning potential: $100–$500/hour or more

3. Professional Life Coach

This line of work is great for sports coaches, entrepreneurs and just general high performers. It also will be helpful to pick a niche and build a brand.

Are you highly self-motivated? Become a personal development life coach. Are you a solid leader? There are leadership life coaches, as well as entrepreneurial, spiritual and many others. Certifications are not required, but they can help get you started.

Earning potential: $100–$300/hour

4. Pilot (Private Certification)

You can fly private planes without getting a college degree; however, there are FAA requirements you must meet before you take to the skies. It also depends on what type of aircraft you plan to fly.

Earning potential: $100+/hour for private flights

5. Real Estate Flipper

Though there are no degree requirements here, it’s still a lot of work. Flippers buy, renovate then sell properties for profit. That takes a lot of resources and knowledge.

First, you need to have the ability to buy property, then either the skills to fix it yourself or the money to pay people to. The latter would eat into your profits even more, so it’s better to be able to do at least some of the work yourself.

Earnings for each flip depend on the market you’re working with, but it can have a serious payoff.

Earning potential: $100+/hour (averaged over projects)

6. Self-Taught Software Developer

Many of us know people who are just good with computers. If you’re one of those people, you can build websites, apps or automations — and without a computer science degree. Start by learning through platforms like Codecademy or freeCodeCamp. Then offer your services on a freelance basis for even more flexibility.

Earning potential: $100–$150/hour freelancing

7. Social Media Influencer or Brand Partner

Being chronically online isn’t always a bad thing. You can turn that passion for social media into a full-blown career.

You can leverage your large social media following for sponsored deals, and you can diversify your income stream with multiple platforms. Think TikTok, Instagram and YouTube. Though this isn’t the most stable job, it’s one almost anyone can do.

Earning potential: Varies; top earners easily exceed $100/hour

8. Tech Support Consultant

We live in a tech world, which also means we have plenty of tech problems. Companies need tech support consultants to troubleshoot IT problems, implement tech solutions and beef up their cybersecurity. You can take on multiple clients and do all your work from home.

Earning potential: $100–$200/hour freelancing

9. Graphic Designer or Animator

Creativity is still a desirable skill, and companies are willing to pay for it. You can design visual assets, animations or branding materials. Build up your skills and portfolio and charge what you’re worth, and you’re on your way to a high-paying gig.

Earning potential: $100–$150/hour

10. Photographer or Videographer

You’re not super likely to find a full-time job at a company with a $100 an hour pay rate. However, if you can offer high-end work for weddings, corporate events and product shoots, you can justify the rate.

For example, many wedding photographers charge an average of $3,000-$5,000 for one wedding. The work on the day of the wedding plus editing and working with the client can easily average out to $100 an hour.

Earning potential: $100+/hour depending on niche

How to Get Started in High-Paying Jobs Without a Degree

If you’re aiming for $100/hour gigs, strategic action beats credentials. Here’s how to begin:

Pick a high-demand skill — Think writing, coding, real estate or coaching.
Take online courses — Platforms like Udemy, Coursera and Skillshare offer fast-track learning.
Build a portfolio — You’ll need to be able to showcase your abilities with case studies, testimonials or sample work.
Find your first clients — Freelance platforms like Upwork and Fiverr, sites like LinkedIn, Facebook groups, networking events or cold outreach are all viable paths.

High-Income Skills That Boost Your Earnings

Want to maximize your earning potential? These skills pay dividends across almost any no-degree career:

Sales and negotiation
Personal branding and digital marketing
Tech skills (SEO, web development, automation)
Financial literacy (budgeting, investing)
Communication and leadership

Pros and Cons of High-Paying Jobs Without a Degree

Pros

High earning potential
No college debt
Flexible schedules and autonomy
Quick to enter many fields

Cons

May require years of experience
Income can be unpredictable
Freelancing can lead to burnout
Constant self-marketing often required

Red Flags: Avoid Job Scams and False Promises

Where there’s high income potential, scams often follow. Be wary of “get rich quick” claims with no clear skill or service involved. If how much they plan to pay you seems crazy high and they’re eager to hire you without looking into your professional background, it could be a scam to get your personal information.

Some jobs that promise high wages and flexibility are often MLMs. If you have to pay anything up front to be part of it, run the other way. The best defense is to research companies before accepting work.

Earning $100/Hour Without a Degree Is Possible

A job paying $100 an hour without a degree isn’t a fantasy — it’s a viable path for those who build marketable skills, develop a personal brand and hustle smart.

Whether you’re freelancing, consulting or launching your own business, you can achieve an impressive income without a diploma. It just takes focus, resilience and a willingness to learn.
