Nvidia (NASDAQ:NVDA) and AMD (NASDAQ:AMD) moved lower on Thursday as U.S. officials have slowed licenses to chipmakers to send large-scale amounts of artificial intelligence accelerators to the Middle East, Bloomberg reported. Nvidia fell 2.8% in late trading, while AMD rose 1%, off the best levels of the session. The reviews are being done amid a national security review of AI development in the area, the news outlet reported, citing people familiar with the matter. It’s unclear how long the review will take, and there is no definition of what a large scale shipment is. The slowdown in licenses is meant to give U.S. officials time to understand how the equipment being sent to countries like the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia is being used, who is using them and how the facilities are secured, the news outlet added. Nvidia and AMD did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Seeking Alpha.
