Google’s artificial intelligence (AI) technology is set to power online travel agency Priceline’s virtual travel tool, Reuters reported.
The collaboration between Google, a unit of Alphabet (NASDAQ:GOOG) (NASDAQ:GOOGL), and Priceline, par of Booking Holdings (NASDAQ:BKNG), could be seen in action as early as this summer, the report added.
Priceline plans to introduce a sophisticated chatbot for planning trips, and hotel suggestions which would be like “a personal concierge” for users, the report noted citing Priceline’s Chief Technology Officer Martin Brodbeck.
New solutions from Google’s cloud division would give Priceline access to generative AI, such as the one behind Microsoft-backed (MSFT) ChatGPT which draft and generate content.
The tools also take information such as hotel prices from existing data to help with accuracy. Google’s AI would also generate coding suggestions for developers at Priceline, according to Brodbeck. Priceline will also use Google’s search capabilities for employee intranets. In addition, the AI tech will speed up marketing for trending destinations, the report added.
Using the new technology could give Priceline an edge over other competing websites which market travel options, including Google.
However, the tech giant’s capabilities, not competition, resulted in the collaboration with Priceline, Brodbeck noted.
For Google, generating business via AI technology could potentially be a path close the gap with rivals Amazon (AMZN) and Microsoft, against which the company has been behind in providing cloud services such as data storage, the report noted.
