The U.S. Postal Service officially observes ten national holidays each year, including Presidents’ Day. In observance of George Washington’s birthday, the federal government designates the third Monday of February as a national holiday. This year it falls on Monday, February 20. The U.S. Postal Service will not operate and the post office will be closed on Presidents’ Day 2023.

Online Post Office Services
The good news is that even when the brick-and-mortar post office locations are closed, there are alternative options. Some postal services are always available online 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, even on observed federal holidays. For example, you can create an account to order stamps and other mailing supplies. Furthermore, you can print shipping labels and request pickups for your packages. However, you will either need to wait until after the holiday or find private providers if you require additional mailing services.
Private Delivery Services on Presidents’ Day
Luckily, there are always other places you can turn to when you need immediate assistance with mailing services. If you need stamps, you can purchase them at any office supply store or supermarket that remains open on federal holidays. You can always call ahead to make sure they have what you need. Then you do not need to waste your time or gas money.
Should you need emergency or express mailing services, you can always use one of the private delivery companies. Since they maintain their own schedules, they may still operate on holidays when USPS does not. Just be aware that they may have different hours and specialized services during national holidays. FedEx and UPS will continue operations on Presidents’ Day this year. Additionally, retail locations for these delivery companies will also remain open when the post office is closed on Presidents’ Day 2023.
U.S. Postal Delivery Services During Covid-19
While many post offices remain open, some locations’ opening hours have been affected by employee availability. To check the hours at your local post office, you can call 800-ASK-USPS or use the Post Office Locator to view their hours of operation.
Although many services have been disrupted during the pandemic, postal delivery remains an essential service. Therefore, post offices will open during regular business days. However, they have made special accommodations to ensure everyone’s safety. In addition to requiring all employers to wear face coverings, they also ask everyone who enters to wear one as well. They also observe several social distancing measures. Hand sanitizer is available as you enter. They also mark spots with floor tape and install plastic barriers between employees to minimize the risk of exposure.
