Editor’s Note: This story originally appeared on FlexJobs.com.

This summer, job seekers continue to prioritize flexibility, and many employers are meeting that demand with a strong supply of remote roles.

“Even in a changing job landscape, remote work isn’t going away,” says Keith Spencer, a career expert at FlexJobs. “These forward-thinking employers are a testament to the importance of flexibility in the future of work, and we hope the list helps job seekers better identify and connect to the many remote career options available this summer.”

To support your search, FlexJobs analyzed the remote job posting histories of more than 60,000 companies between January 1, 2026, and May 31, 2026. The result is a list of 75 companies that have posted the highest number of remote jobs so far this year, along with tips to help you navigate your summer job search. Let’s dive in.

Thermo Fisher Scientific earned the top spot on FlexJobs’ 2026 Top 75 list, followed by Apex Systems and General Dynamics. This year’s leading employers reflect the continued demand for flexible talent across fields like healthcare, government, engineering, and technology, with many companies on the list continuing to invest in remote and hybrid work opportunities across a range of experience levels.

Spencer shared this advice:

“Remote hiring remains highly competitive in today’s market, which means job seekers need to be more strategic than ever. Summer can be an excellent time to focus on identifying companies that align with your professional values, preferred work style, and long-term career goals, rather than simply applying to as many jobs as possible.

A targeted, thoughtful application strategy often leads to stronger results than a high-volume approach.”

Top Remote Career Categories and Job Titles in Demand This Summer

The most in-demand remote jobs this summer include account executive, software engineer, sales development representative, and project manager roles, with project management, computer and IT, and sales leading remote hiring in 2026 so far.

10 Most In-Demand Industries for Remote Jobs

The top 10 career categories with the highest number of remote job postings since the start of 2026 were:

Project Management
Computer and IT
Sales
Operations
Business Development
Communications
Marketing
Engineering
Customer Service
Medical and Health

For the second year in a row, project management had the highest volume of remote job postings in the first half of the year. Along with computer and IT and sales, it also maintained strong demand for remote talent, with each industry growing more than 30% year over year.

Operations and business development remained key areas for flexible hiring, each growing by more than 20%, reflecting employers’ continued focus on growth and customer engagement. Communications, marketing, engineering, customer service, and medical and health roles also saw strong remote hiring activity, with each category growing by at least 16%.

10 Most In-Demand Remote Jobs

Additionally, the 10 remote job titles employers hired for the most during the first part of 2026 were:

Account Executive
Software Engineer
Sales Development Representative
Project Manager
Customer Service Representative
Executive Assistant
Business Development Representative
Product Manager
Senior Accountant
Financial Analyst

Building on past hiring trends, account executives and software engineers remained the top two most in-demand remote jobs. Sales development representatives followed closely, with enough growth to break into the top rankings.

Demand also remained steady for project managers, customer service representatives, executive assistants, business development representatives, and product managers throughout 2026. And while overall growth was more modest, senior accountants and financial analysts continued to stand out as some of the highest-volume remote opportunities in finance.

How to Have a Successful Summer Job Search

“Remote job opportunities are still widely available across more industries and experience levels,” said Spencer.

“But as interest in remote work continues to surge, so does the competition. To set themselves apart, job seekers need to focus their efforts on the career fields and employers with consistently high remote job availability, such as those featured in FlexJobs’ latest report, which can make all the difference in a crowded job market.”

With that in mind, it’s important to be intentional about where and how you focus your search for virtual jobs. Here are five tips to help you navigate a successful summer job search and find a role that fits your needs:

1. Research Companies That Hire for Remote Jobs

Before sending out applications, research companies that are actively hiring for remote roles—and not just once in a while, but consistently—to narrow your search and spend your energy where it’s most likely to pay off.

Start by browsing the list above, but you can also go a step further by:

Using advanced search filters: Sort by “remote” or “work-from-anywhere” roles on FlexJobs to quickly identify remote-friendly companies and matching positions.
Reading company descriptions: Review details on FlexJobs about each employer’s benefits, values, and culture to help determine the right fit.
Exploring employee review platforms: Check sites like Glassdoor to get real-life insight into company culture and employee experiences.
Following companies on social media: Stay informed about company updates, hiring announcements, and events by following them on social platforms, like X or LinkedIn.
Setting job alerts: Create alerts for companies of interest so you can apply as soon as new roles are posted.

2. Set a Consistent Job Search Schedule

Job searching during the summer can come with distractions, such as vacation plans, childcare changes, or just the temptation to spend time outdoors. Instead of letting those challenges derail your progress in your search for online jobs, build a schedule that works with your summer lifestyle, not against it.

That might mean setting aside a focused hour each morning before your day gets busy or blocking off two evenings per week to tackle applications. Treat those blocks like appointments you can’t miss. If you’re juggling caregiving or part-time work, consider using calendar reminders or job search trackers to stay organized and on task.

The key here isn’t to job search nonstop. It’s to be consistent and intentional with the time you do have. Showing up regularly makes it easier to build momentum and stay motivated.

3. Tailor Your Resume and Applications

It can be tempting to send out the same resume to every job, especially when applying in bulk. But personalized applications almost always perform better. A tailored resume that highlights the exact skills and experience the employer is looking for will help you get past an applicant tracking system (ATS) and stand out from the crowd.

Before applying, read the job description carefully. Look for key phrases and required skills, then mirror that language in your resume and cover letter. Emphasize your most relevant achievements and explain how your background supports the company’s goals or mission. This can be as simple as swapping a skill on your resume with the version used in the job post, like changing “customer outreach” to “client engagement” if that’s the employer’s preferred term.

If you’re applying for work-from-home jobs, be sure to highlight your remote-relevant skills. These might include:

Time management
Organization
Strong communication
Familiarity with tools like Slack, Asana, Zoom, or Google Workspace
The ability to work independently and stay on task without direct supervision

4. Apply Strategically Instead of Mass-Applying

When you’re eager to land an opportunity quickly during a summer job search, it’s easy to fall into the habit of applying to as many openings as possible. But applying to every remote job you see isn’t always the best use of your time, and it can lead to burnout. Instead, focus on quality over quantity, and take a more strategic approach.

Focus on roles that align with your skills, interests, and goals. Apply to jobs where you meet most (but not necessarily all) of the qualifications. Then, take the time to craft a tailored resume and thoughtful cover letter that clearly show why you’re a strong fit for that specific role. You’ll likely get better results applying to five well-matched jobs with customized materials than applying to 25 with a one-size-fits-all approach.

To stay organized, keep a simple tracker of where and when you’ve applied. This can help you follow up when appropriate and avoid duplicating efforts. Being selective and intentional not only improves your chances but also helps you stay motivated throughout the search.

5. Stay Engaged While You Wait

It can be tough to stay motivated if you’re not hearing back right away, but your job search doesn’t have to stall while you wait. There are plenty of ways to stay productive and build momentum.

Here are a few ways to stay engaged throughout your summer job search:

Upskill: Take a short online course, earn a certification, or practice using tools that are common in your field. Learn new skills so you can include them confidently on your resume.
Network: Reconnect with former coworkers, attend virtual industry events, and make new LinkedIn connections. Let people know what kind of jobs you’re looking for.
Reflect: Take a step back to evaluate whether you’re targeting the right roles and if your resume clearly highlights your strengths. Small adjustments can lead to better results.
