Volunteer recruitment often begins during the summer and fall, followed by extensive IRS training and certification before tax season opens. By the time filing season officially begins, thousands of trained volunteers are already prepared to help older adults file accurate returns. It’s also important to note that many Tax-Aide and TCE sites operate by appointment, and some communities reach capacity well before the April filing deadline, making early planning especially important.
