Tulsi Gabbard resigned her position as director of national intelligence (DNI) on Friday, May 22. Gabbard’s departure doesn’t appear to be due to any sort of controversy or failures on her part – or disappointments on the president’s part – but instead family issues. Her husband, Hawaiian-born freelance cinematographer and filmmaker, Abraham Williams, has been diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, according to the Trump administration.
In a letter submitted Friday, Gabbard wrote: “Unfortunately, I must submit my resignation, effective June 30, 2026. My husband, Abraham, has recently been diagnosed with an extremely rare form of bone cancer.”
She thanked the president for the trust he placed in her, but said she needed to “be by is side and fully support him through this battle.” Gabbard was confirmed as DNI in February of last year.
