Former CIA Director Reveals Deep State ‘Legion’ Obstructing Trump

When President Donald Trump first burst onto the political scene in 2015, he promised to fight back against the unelected bureaucrats – otherwise known as the “deep state” – who he alleged were running the show behind the scenes in Washington, DC. The claim was dismissed as a conspiracy theory by many on the left. Now, however, former CIA Director John Brennan has said the quiet part out loud: There’s still a “legion of professionals” working against Trump. It turns out the president’s vow to “drain the swamp” is easier said than done – and the deep state isn’t going to go down without a fight.

Deep State ‘Legion’

The aforementioned “legion” of federal employees allegedly obstructing President Trump’s agenda work in law enforcement and intelligence agencies, including the Department of Justice, the CIA, and “other places,” Brennan told MS NOW earlier this week, portraying the obstruction as a noble refusal “to follow politically motivated prosecutions.” Brennan accused the Trump administration of engaging in “political activities” that are “inconsistent with the authorities, the responsibilities of the Intelligence Community, law enforcement community, and the Department of Justice.”

“So we have to rely on these individuals to stand up to their professional responsibilities, and also to the courts, to the judges, to those judges who, in fact, took an oath of allegiance to the law, not to a political party, not to a person,” Brennan said in response to MS NOW host Nicolle Wallace’s claim that President Trump has turned federal law enforcement agencies into “political arms of his political operation.”

Even if what Brennan and Wallace said about the Trump administration were true, it’s laughable that he would clutch his pearls at the thought of politicized intelligence and law enforcement agencies. Brennan previously served as deputy National Security advisor and assistant to President Barack Obama for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism, and, as Liberty Nation News reported, he “choreographed the phony investigation of Donald Trump’s ties to Russia that hamstrung the 45th president for much of his first term.” Brennan is reportedly under investigation for his role in the “Russiagate” hoax.

Conspiracy Sans Theory

If there actually are hordes of bureaucrats sabotaging Trump from inside the federal government, then it’s stunning that a former CIA chief would discuss it so casually. After all, policymakers, including the president, are supposed to decide the Intelligence Community’s (IC) priorities, according to the Office of the Director of National Intelligence. IC personnel coordinate with officials “to identify core concerns and information requirements.” The Intelligence Community is also subject to oversight by the president, as well as several other groups. President Trump “is responsible for all Intelligence Community oversight that falls within the executive branch,” the DNI website explains, adding that the president must approve all covert or classified foreign missions.

The Office of the DNI blasted Brennan’s revelations, writing on X: “The same CIA Director who pushed the Russia collusion hoax for years is now openly admitting there are still bureaucrats inside the Intelligence Community and DOJ working against the duly elected President. The Deep State was never a conspiracy theory.”

Brennan wasn’t the only former intelligence official this week to not-so-subtly indicate that law enforcement and intelligence workers are digging in their heels until Trump is gone. Former FBI Director James Comey told CNN’s Kasie Hunt that he still talks to current FBI employees regularly and claimed the agency is “under siege.”

“There’s a lot of pain at the FBI, in the FBI community right now, but it’s not going to last forever,” Comey said.

The Trump administration has reduced the federal workforce by over 300,000, but if Brennan and Comey are telling the truth, then President Trump might reasonably consider another round of layoffs. The swamp isn’t going to empty itself – and apparently, some members of the intelligence and law enforcement communities are determined to clog the drain.
