6 Cars Leading a Sedan Resurgence in the US in 2026

Sedans are poised to make a comeback in 2026 as drivers scramble for more affordable vehicle options. New car prices have hit historic highs and gas price increases are relentless as the Iran war continues.

Luckily for American car buyers, automakers still produce plenty of small and midsize sedans (four-door cars with enclosed trunks) that are cheaper and more fuel-efficient than large SUV and truck models. SUVs may have led sales rankings in recent years because of practicality and utility, but sedans could be coming to dethrone popular models because of demand for more affordable vehicles with lower fuel costs.

Here are some of the sedans leading the charge for a resurgence in the U.S. in 2026.

The 2026 Honda Civic Hybrid Is an Efficient Sedan

Honda’s Civic nameplate is on its 11th generation. The Civic Hybrid utilizes electric motors to make the popular compact car even more efficient and appealing to drivers looking to save money on gas.

The 2026 Honda Civic Hybrid starts at $29,395. It uses a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and electric motors to produce 200 horsepower. The Civic Hybrid achieves 50 mpg in the city and 47 mpg on the highway.

Honda’s sedan has stood the test of time as a popular car despite the dominance of SUVs in recent years. Its value only shines brighter as drivers look for alternatives to more expensive vehicles with average or below-average gas mileage.

The 2026 Toyota Camry Is a Sales Success

Toyota reported 78,225 Camry sales as of March 2026, up from 70,308 in March 2025. The standard hybrid Camry is outselling SUV models like the Toyota RAV4, Toyota Highlander and Toyota 4Runner in 2026.

The 2026 Toyota Camry starts at $29,300. It uses a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and electric motors to produce 225 horsepower. The Camry earns 52 mpg in the city and 49 mpg on the highway.

The Toyota Camry is a prime example of the rising popularity of practical and affordable sedan models. Its sales are outpacing popular SUV sales numbers and it’s a great family vehicle based on our testing.

Honda’s Midsize Sedan Is Sporty and Practical

The Civic isn’t the only sedan from Japanese automaker Honda that has survived for decades. Also in its 11th generation, high demand has kept the Accord around because it has engaging driving dynamics and it’s practical enough for small families.

Honda’s 2026 Accord starts at $28,395. It uses a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine to produce 192 horsepower. The Accord achieves 29 mpg in the city and 37 mpg on the highway.

The Accord is roomy enough to keep passengers comfy and it provides solid value for the money.

Kia’s Compact Sedan Is Cheap and Value-Packed

The Kia K4 is a small car that’s available as a hatchback or a sedan. Drivers who opt for the sedan model get one of the cheapest new cars on the market.

The 2026 Kia K4 sedan starts at just $22,290. It uses a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine to produce 147 horsepower. The small car earns 30 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway.

Kia’s small car isn’t the most powerful or luxurious model in its segment, but it’s easily one of the cheapest and most efficient sedan choices for 2026. It comes in five trims for drivers who find the base model to be too barebones.

Tesla’s Model 3 Is the Most Popular Electric Sedan

Tesla’s compact electric sedan is changing the way many drivers look at cars and helping them make the switch from gas to electric vehicles. Tesla sold over 192,000 Model 3 sedans back in 2025, according to data from Cox Automotive.

The 2026 Tesla Model 3 starts at $36,990. It produces around 260 horsepower. The base model has 321 miles of estimated driving range.

Tesla’s Model 3 has become the best-selling electric car in the U.S. in recent years, towering over rivals. It’s proof that sedans can sell just as well as popular SUVs and trucks.

The 2026 Kia K5 Is an Affordable Midsize Family Sedan

Slotted above the Kia K4, the Kia K5 is a midsize car that provides great value for families on a budget. Like the K4, the Kia K5 comes in plenty of trims for drivers who want more features out of the sedan.

The 2026 Kia K5 starts at $27,490. It uses a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine to produce 191 horsepower. The K5 achieves 26 mpg in the city and 37 mpg on the highway.

There are plenty of sedans on the market that provide great value for the money in terms of quality, driving dynamics, cabin and cargo space and fuel efficiency. These models are helping bring sedans to the forefront of vehicle segments.
