AeroVironment plunged 5.5% on Monday as a wave of six analyst downgrades slashed price targets by an average of 23.7%, signaling dimmed expectations for the defense drone maker. Shares fell to $180.49 on volume of 884,334, pushing the company’s market cap to $9.1 billion.

AeroVironment Releases Q4 2026 Financial Results

Jun 30, 2026

The selloff followed a coordinated downgrade cycle from major Wall Street firms. Jefferies cut its price target from $305 to $229 while maintaining a Buy rating. Needham delivered the steepest reduction, slashing its target from $400 to $225. Stifel lowered its outlook from $315 to $220, while RBC Capital dropped its target from $250 to $210. Canaccord Genuity reduced its price target from $300 to $280, and UBS—the lone Neutral-rated firm—trimmed its target from $172 to $166. The new average price target of $222 still implies upside from current levels, but the magnitude of the cuts suggests analysts are reassessing near-term growth prospects for the aerospace and defense company.

Despite the downgrades, most firms maintained constructive ratings. Five of the six analysts held Buy or Outperform ratings, indicating they still see long-term value even as they recalibrate expectations. The breadth of the revisions—spanning firms from Jefferies to UBS—suggests the reassessment reflects sector-wide concerns or company-specific headwinds rather than isolated analyst opinions. The elevated trading volume underscores investor reaction to the downgrade barrage, as shareholders digested the revised outlooks.

The stock now trades below the average analyst price target, creating a potential buying opportunity for those who share Wall Street’s view that fundamentals remain intact. However, the synchronized nature of the downgrades raises questions about what catalysts might drive a rebound. Investors will be looking for management commentary or contract announcements that could restore confidence in the growth trajectory.

What to Watch: Investors should monitor upcoming earnings reports and contract award announcements that could either validate the reduced price targets or provide a catalyst for a recovery. Any shifts in defense spending priorities or new product launches could also influence whether the stock can climb back toward the $222 average analyst target.
